ADO Air 30 Pro | Ultra City Electric Bike

The Ordering process was simple along with receiving the bike unpacking and assembling of the bike was very straightforward.
The operator manual was somewhat simple and perhaps lacking in detail.
Riding the bike has been excellent and as a first experience with an ebike, very positive. Getting used to the automatic gearing was a bit challenging initially, but overall a very positive impression, so far.

Great city bike

I've now done about 150 miles over various different rides and terrain and there is a lot to like about the ADO Air 30 Ultra. Its a nicely designed bike, its super quiet and the shifting is really nice when you get up on the pedals and power away - it shifts you seamlessly from 1st to 3rd. However the assist isn't the most powerful I've experienced on a UK legal e-bike and getting up hills is a slog.

Its really at home on flat runs with no head-winds and if you have bad knees like I do, it'll leave you wishing for a couple of extra gears or that the change from 2nd to 3rd happened at a higher cadence. Or that you could manually select the preferred gear. This is especially frustrating on hills as it will change up, but not down and you can't easily stop pedalling to let the bike down shift on a hill.

There is no range prediction or battery capacity percentage indicator - you either rely on a battery symbol or battery voltage. In either case, that goes up and down depending on the load, so remaining assist range is a total guessing game.

The quoted range is very optimistic. I've managed about 35 miles on level 1 and a lot of input from me. Probably nearer under 20 miles on level 5.

The sat-nav display is a really nice idea, but it doesn't update half the time. You end up looking at the same turn and distance information that just doesn't change. Perhaps a software update will fix that... however, I am not able to update the controller from the app. It says its starting, but nothing happens.

The app itself doesn't stay connected to the bike and the information on the app doesn't reflect what the bike display shows. Also the Bluetooth unlock doesn't work for me.

I fitted the handlebar riser, but its still a smidge too low for me. Also the handlebars are insanely wide.

The suspension seat post works a treat after adjusting the tension.

Brakes are great and pretty much what you'd expect from hydraulic.

The mudguards are really nice aluminium, and the luggage rack seems decent though I've not loaded it up with paniers, so not sure if mine will fit the profile using the panier clips.

The auto lights are a nice touch, as are the indicators, though that feels like an after thought as the cable for the handlebar speed control switches exit in front of the indicator switches and there is nothing on the display to tell you you've left an indicator on.

Overall a nice bike. If your riding is mostly flat and you value quietness, simplicity, and design, it’s a pleasant cruiser. But if you need strong hill assist, or have bad knees and need more control over gearing, this probably isn’t the bike for you.
